The alternative education programs curriculum is individualized.

Tucson Urban League Academy (TULA) and Charter Alternative Education Program (CAP) work together to promote student success. CAP is an extension of TULA; therefore, CAP students are expected to uphold the policies and procedures described in the TULA Student/Parent Handbook. Since CAP is an alternative program. some policies and procedures differ slightly from TULA.

CAP is designed for any student who would benefit from an alternative approach to assist him/her in earning high school graduation credits.

Each child has the fundamental need to feel protected, to be cared for. Therefore, CAP's mission is to provide a safe haven for students who are anxious to continue their studies, but who are incapable of dealing with the traditional approach to education.

CAP is committed to enabling each student to change negative behavior. CAP sets a high standard of expectations with an eye towards individuality by providing a non-threatening environment, by focusing on effort rather than failure, by nurturing each student in an effort to build self-esteem, by creating a feeling of belonging, and by generating a relationship of trust and respect between student and educator.

The CAP individualized and independent study curriculum is designed to foster individual responsibility in each student, goal setting, academic building blocks, problem solving skills, and critical thought.

The goal of CAP is successful high school completion. Each student is catered to according to his/her accomplishments at the time of entry. Each student is considered personally responsible for his/her success and is furthered encouraged to set his/her own academic goals.
