The Prevention and Intervention Department is committed to providing quality after school programming in a safe, structured, and fun environment. We have a variety of programs ranging from tutoring/mentoring, theater, arts & crafts, prevention, Pima County Juvenile Court Prevention Services, all day alternative to suspension, and Intel Computer Clubhouse. Carrying on the commitment to providing the best education for our children and fostering a joy in learning, the Tucson Urban League continues to raise the bar by engaging students and parents with creative, engaging programs.
The After School Enrichment Program provides educational and recreational activities and is funded by the Tucson Urban League, Inc, United Way of Tucson, and the 21st Century Community Grant
The Tucson Urban League (TUL) Alternative to Suspension Program (ASP) provides students grades 6-12, who are suspended from school, with basic academic skills support, a safe supervised environment, decision making strategies, social skills development, and exposure to community/civic duty (through participation in community service activities).
The Comprehensive Youth Program is a highly structured and closely supervised program which helps at-risk youth to improve their pro-social functioning through cognitive self-change, life skills, and positive use of leisure time.
The New Horizons Prevention Program (NHPP) provides youth in grades 9-12 with high quality programs in a structured environment giving the students the opportunity to acquire individualized academic assistance, employability skills, prevention skills, and a safe place to learn how to avoid risky behaviors such as drugs and alcohol, gang and criminal activity.
The Intel Computer Clubhouse at the Tucson Urban League is a creative and safe after-school learning environment. Young people will have the opportunity to work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills, and build confidence through the use of technology.
The PAT program will provide each participant referred by Juvenile Court with several comprehensive program components, which will include tutoring, technology and employment training, cognitive development, and structured recreational activities. The complete program for each participant will be flexible in curriculum and length.
The Tutoring/Mentoring Program provides a safe and constructive after-school environment to youth in grades 1-8 from South Tucson and Pima County. Children will receive academic assistance, English Language Learner tutoring (ELL), computer technology, structured recreational activities, and arts and crafts.
