The New Horizons Prevention Program (NHPP) provides youth in grades 9-12 with high quality programs in a structured environment giving the students the opportunity to acquire individualized academic assistance, employability skills, prevention skills, and a safe place to learn how to avoid risky behaviors such as drugs and alcohol, gang and criminal activity. The program has three goals targeting educationally and socially disadvantaged youth grades 9 through 12:
Prevention - will assist youth to recognize their personal assets, turn away from unhealthy and dangerous lifestyles (cognitive development).
Employability skills/Workforce development - will assist youth in developing resume writing techniques, interviewing skills, higher self-esteem, and daily living skills and communication strategies.
Academic development - will provide tutoring in writing, reading, math and literature, while developing personal resiliency, leadership, and understanding of the responsibility of freedom, decision-making skills, as they pursue educational goals.
