Funded by a City of Tucson Community Block Grant, the Microenterprise Training and Loans Program provides scholarships for entrepreneuers who might not otherwise have access to the educational and technical resources needed to develop successful businesses.
The Tucson Urban League's Microenterprise Training and Loans Program is designed to help low/moderate income and minority micro entrepreneurs gain the skills they need to market, operate and finance their businesses; develop viable business plans; and ongoing support in starting or expanding micro-enterprises.
Business Education
The Business Education component draws its faculty from the University and successful members of the Tucson Business Community. Enrolees in the program commit to at least a 15-week course, which guides them through the development of their own business plans.
Business Planning Education
The Business Planning Education component of the Microenterprise Training and Loans Program is designed to give participants the tools to develop and write a business plan. Participants learn why and how a business plan is developed. Instructors and guest lecturers teach business theories and concepts and offer practical experience and advise on how to market, finance and operate a new or growing company. Course topics include:
Developing a business plan to help you succeed. Financing your business Market research and planning Using the Library Bookkeeping and accounting
Operations planning
Communicating and presenting professionally
Applications are submitted at program orientation seminars or by appointment with program staff.
Participants are selected based upon eligibility for the program, business specific skills, the strength of their business ideas and their overall commitment.
Each class is limited to 30 participants.
Program Eligibility
The Tucson Urban League's Microenterprise Training and Loans Program serves people who own an existing microenterprise or are starting a new nicroenterprise and offers scholarships to those who:
Reside or locate theirr business in the City of Tucson; and Meet eligibility income limits; determined by the U.S. Depertment of Housing and Urban Development.
Program enrolees are asked to purchase their own educational materials at the cost of $50.00 and will be required to sign a "Statement of Commitment" and a "Non Disclosure Agreement" protecting the confidentiality of all microenterprises.
*All business plan material preperation cost will be incurred by the project participants and is not included in the educational materials cost.
