Workforce Development
Employment and Training is designed to provide you, the job seeker, with multitude of services that will enable you to obtain gainful employment, explore career and labor market information, and receive job referral and placement services. Our services are tailored to fit your needs and help you reach your employment goals, whether you are a professional or a young adult looking for your first job.
We offer employment and training through the following programs.
Workforce Investment Act Programs
All training and job placement services provided by WIA are at no cost to the participant. It is there to assist you in finding employment, explore careers, and to upgrade your skills through education and training.
The following services will be provided as needed.
Career guidance and counseling
Self service information on community services, training, and education programs
Classroom training (if qualified)
Basic skills and occupational skills analysis
On-the-Job-Training and Job Placement Assistance
Instep Program
The Instep Program provides students with the opportunity to upgrade their academic skills, gain practical work experience, and earn positions in one of the University of Arizona's participating departments. Participants work on the average of 10 hours per week. Work includes a four-day week job-site and employability skills workshop on Friday. Participants train for 2 hours every Saturday in preparation for the SAT.
Summer Youth Enrichment Employment Program
Summer Youth Employment and Education Program provides youth with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and earn academic credits. Students work approximately 25 hours a week in a variety of exciting settings. Each session is seven weeks in length and students may enroll in one session during the summer.
Tutoring & AIMS Prep
After school educational enrichment programs to assist youth ages 13 and older with homework help in math, English, and science. Tutoring programs provides youth with a safe, positive, and stimulating, learning environment.
Urban Youth Empowerment
The Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP) is an initiative funded through the Department of Labor. It is sponsored by the National Urban League to provide career preparation to "High-Risk" out of school and/or adjudicated youth ages 18-21. The goal is to ensure self-sufficiency through community service, continued education and unsubsidized employment.
This is a comprehensive program that provides both education and work experiences.

Eligibility Requirements:
Must be 18-21 years old
Must be academically at a 6th grade level minimum
Adjudicated/Court Involved encouraged to apply
Must Live in Pima County
Have not completed High School or GED*
*Candidates with H.S. diploma and/or some college will be considered

Mentorship
