The Round Table on Community Change will be held on July 20, 2010 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Dunbar School, 325 West 2nd Street, Tucson Arizona.

Tucson Urban League Juneteenth VIP Reception A Success

TUCSON: On Friday, June 11, 2010, the Tucson Urban League hosted a Juneteenth VIP Reception to kickoff the week long Juneteenth celebration. Representatives from both Governor Janice Brewer and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords office were among guests in attendance. Mr. Jim Marten, Deputy Director of the Southern Arizona Office of the Governor Janice K. Brewer presented the League with a Juneteenth Proclamation. The Governor acknowledged the importance of Juneteenth and encourages citizens “to reflect upon the value of freedom, reaffirm the universal principal of justice for all, and join in Juneteenth celebrations”.

Ron Barber, District Director for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords office, notified the League that Gifford signed on to House Resolution 546, which was introduced by Congressman Danny Davis, to make Juneteenth a National Day of Observance.
